Members of Girl Scout Troop #31293,  Kassidy York and Samantha Buchy, assist with the downtown plantings. This is their fourth year participating in the Adopt A Box program.

On May 19, nearly 100 people from businesses, organizations and families came to beautify downtown.  With the early morning start, volunteers from BASF and Boy Scout Troop #373 assisted with the unloading and spreading of mulch and planting Annie Oakley Park. From 8:00am until 11:00am on Saturday morning people gathered in the downtown to plant their adopted box organized by the Main Street Greenville’s Design Committee.

If you are in downtown this summer, check out the colorful additions to the downtown along with the rows of street poles recognizing the Adopt-A-Box participants.  Children, parents, grandparents, co-workers, and friends all took part in the planting of the vibrant colors along South Broadway. “This program was designed to reach out and involve the community and to have an appreciation for downtown Greenville,” stated Mike Henderson, Main Street Greenville Design Chair.  Throughout the summer the participants will be maintaining their box or pot while helpful hands of more community volunteers water them.

This year’s program recognizes BASF, Miller Flowers, Spencer’s Landscaping, Fresh Air Farms, Wayne Industries and City of Greenville Street Department for contributing time, materials and or monetary donation towards this community project.
